  • Led the Pilots to the 1979 Northern Pacific Conference championship and entry into the NCAA tournament
  • Instrumental in the school record of 36 wins in the 1980 season
  • Third player selected in the major league draft in 1980
  • Began his career with the Atlanta Braves and traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1984
  • Appeared in the 1985 and 1987 National League Championship Series and the World Series
  • National League Comeback Player of the Year in 1987 following the surgery of transplanted nerves and ligaments in his right arm to his left
  • Holds the University's record for strikeouts
