  • Recruited to play baseball but was given a scholarship for basketball
  • Started playing baseball his sophomore year, hitting a .301 and earned the team MVP award as a rookie
  • Played with the 1980 squad which won 36 games
  • After graduation, he made the Oakland Athletics' Class A team in Medford and made his debut in 1983 against the California Angels before 40,000 fans
  • Since then, Bill has pitched for the Dodgers, Mariners, Twins, Expos, and the Detroit Tigers
