  • Played football at Notre Dame with Rockne
  • As football coach at Idaho, Gonzaga, and Portland he was known as an innovator, employing a wide-open, take-a-chance branch of play that at times featured a "no huddle offense", that averaged four to six plays per minute
  • Coached Portland to 1939 upset win over St. Mary's (14-12)
  • Served the university as Director of Athletics, Head Basketball, and Baseball Coach
