  • In 1935, as a freshman, Pay helped lead the Pilots to a win in the first Portland relays, anchoring the winning two-mile and four-mile relay teams
  • Ran the half-mile, mile, and the two-mile and there were times when he ran all three in a single competition
  • Set the University's record of 4 minutes 21 seconds for the mile in 1939 at Linfield, which lasted for 22 years
  • After graduating, he stayed in Portland and worked as a food broker for 45 years, and has gone on to inspire others to collect and donate food for a number of charitable organizations helping the needy
